Whoever says the thought of an alien invasion shouldn’t be taken seriously has got to be joking! Wait… what? Okay, Rival is obviously better at puns than I am. They’re also better at producing imaginative poker machines for desktop and mobile, like this new Rival pokies, Alien Spinvasion!
Intergalactic spacecraft are targeting planet Earth, and it’s up to us, with the help of the mighty Army General, to stop them. It won’t be easy, but it could be very rewarding. This new Rival pokies game features some interesting perks, including Sticky Wilds, Free Spins and a brand new Drop Icon feature.
Alien Spinvasion Pokies
In usual Rival fashion, this new pokies game is equipped with great graphics, a fun soundtrack and lots of thematic humor. It’s got 5 reels, 50 paylines, and a throng of aliens poised to attack the planet.
The game’s symbols include UFOs, asteroids, death ray laser guns, the “red button” telephone, gooey green alien eggs, planet Earth, rockets and gelatinous numeric card values of 9-A.
Sticky Wilds & Re-Spins
The Alien Head is a Sticky Wild, and will trigger a free Re-Spin anytime one or more appears in a winning combination in the base game. The wild will stay in place for the re-spin. If another Sticky wild appears in a winning combination on the re-spin, another re-spin is triggered, with all current wilds holding their position on the reels.
There’s no stated limit to the number of re-spins a player can trigger, and they get more rewarding with each one. The Sticky Wild has an original multiplier of 1x. The multiplier will increase to 2x on the first re-spin, then to 3x, 5x, 7x and 11x on subsequent re-spins.
Free Spins w/ Drop Icon Feature
The Army General is the Scatter, but he’s not like any Scatter we’ve met before. All it takes is a single Army General appearing anywhere on the reels to initiate the new Rival pokies game’s Free Spins mode. Players receive 11 free spins, with a high-paying Rocket symbol and brand new Drop Icons feature in play.
During free spins, the Drop Icon feature will automatically activate every time a winning combination lands on the reels. All symbols involved in the win are laser-blasted out of the sky. New symbols will drop down to fill up the empty spaces, potentially creating more winning combinations.
Alien Spinvasion Pokies – Worth a Whirl?
Unfortunately, this new Rival pokies game just didn’t do it for me. It’s got a medium variance, so the wins don’t come very often, and the pay table isn’t lucrative enough to make it worth your while. At least, it wasn’t in my experience.
The only good win I hit was a five-time repeat on the Sticky Wild feature. It paid out a fantastic 25,260 coins, but that was only enough to refill my bankroll with about half of what I’d already lost.
After approximately two hundred spins (and $35 down the drain), I was beginning to wonder if this “Army General” really existed or not. Fed up with losing, I switched over to free-play mode and spun the reels about two hundred more times (not on Auto, since that’s not allowed in free play – argh!). Finally the General appeared, and won me a measly $12.84 (not even real money).
I do love the creativity and humor behind Alien Spinvasion, but come on Rival – you’ve got to give us something worth playing for. I won’t waste my money on this one again.
