California’s Eagle Mountain Casino seeks Relocation, Expansion

Eagle Mountain CasinoFor the last 20 years, the Tule River Indian Tribe has been operating the Eagle Mountain Casino in Porterville, CA. The gambling facility has grown immensely over the last two decades, in both size and popularity, and if the tribe gets the approval its seeking, another expansion could see the California casino relocated and expanded into a destination property.

The Tule Tribe has submitted an application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs seeking permission to relocate Eagle Mountain Casino, currently situated at 681 Tule Road, to a new parcel of tribal-owned land near the Porterville Airport. The paperwork is currently pending.

Relatively small at 9,600 square feet, the California casino’s gaming floor consists of more than 1,200 slots and video poker machines, a dozen table games like blackjack and pai gow, and a live poker room. Dining options include the popular River Steakhouse, a buffet and food court.

It’s not clear yet whether the expansion – if approved – would increase the size of the gaming floor or number of gambling amusements. The primary purpose, according to the Tule River Tribe, would be to extend the range of available services to guests.

The tribe’s application states their intentions to build a 250-room hotel, along with a 20,000 square foot events center capable of host everything from meetings and conventions to live performances.

It’s also expected that the relocation of the California casino would result in a higher rate of employment for the San Joaquin Valley. Eagle Mountain Casino already employs 500 workers. The construction of the new casino, hotel and events center would create countless temporary jobs, while the completed property would surely employ a greater number of staff to populate the additional facilities.
