Gambling Superstitions that Don’t Matter in Online Craps Games

Online Craps GamesProfessional gamblers are a superstitious breed. How many times have we seen poker players setting various good luck charms next to their chip stacks, or witnessed roulette players betting religiously on the (otherwise unlucky) number 13? At live craps tables, gambling superstitions have become especially prominent, but you’ll find that many of them don’t carry over to online craps games.

We’ll take a look at some of the most common craps superstitions, and those you won’t have to worry about at online casinos.

Having A Beautiful Lady Blow On The Dice

This is easily the most recognized of all gambling superstitions at the craps tables. We’ve seen it in plenty of movies, and I’ve witnessed it more times than I can count at live casinos. Does it work? Who knows. But if you’re playing online craps games, it isn’t even an option.

I suppose you could have a lovely lady stand next to your desktop computer, or mobile device, and blow in the general direction of the dice on the screen. But even then, this is only considered good luck when you’re the shooter. Online craps games don’t generally allow players take the role of shooter.

Never Bet Against The Shooter

In a live setting, it’s considered very bad luck to bet against the shooter. I honestly believe this is one of several gambling superstitions that was started by casino operators, not players. If you take a look at the house edge, you’ll see that betting against the shooter actually has better odds of winning than betting with them.

But again, if you do this at a live craps game, you can expect to get some very nasty looks from the other players around the table. And if you happen to win a lot while betting against the shooter, nasty looks aren’t the only thing you may be subject to.

Fortunately, there are no other players around when playing online craps games. Thus the best strategy would be to place bets on the Don’t Pass, Don’t Come, a relative Lay bets. The chart below shows the house edge for these wagers compared to bets that favor the shooter. (Note: The lower the house edge %, the better it is for the player).

Bet Odds House Edge
Pass Line/Come 251-to-244 1.414%
Don’t Pass/Don’t Come 976-to-949 1.402%
Pass Line/Come Buy Bets (5% commission)
# 4 or 10 2-to-1 4.76%
# 5 or 9 3-to-2 4.76%
# 6 or 8 6-to-5 4.76%
Don’t Pass/Don’t Come Lay Bets (5% Commission)
# 4 or 10 1-to-2 2.44%
# 5 or 9 2-to-3 3.23%
# 6 or 8 5-to-6 4.0%

Never Count Your Money At The Table

Kenny Rogers said it best – “You never count your money when you’re sittin’ at the table. There’ll be time enough for countin’ when the dealin’s done.

How many times have you been tempted to count your chips before placing a bet? Plenty, I’m sure. But if this is one of the gambling superstitions you typically abide by, you won’t have to worry about it at on line craps games. Your exact balance is always shown in clear view, and simply looking at that number isn’t actually counting anything.
