Detroit Casino Patron locks Two Tots in Car to Gamble

MotorCity Casino DetroitThere’s little that can draw the ire of the world more so than the abuse or intentional neglect of a young child. In this case, it was two very young children who were left locked in their father’s car in the parking garage of Detroit’s MotorCity Casino while he went inside to gamble.

The two children, only 5-months and 2-years old, were rescued from the vehicle on Monday morning after an attentive employee noticed they were inside a car in the casino’s covered parking area. The doors were locked and the windows were rolled all the way up. It’s not known how long the children were left alone inside the car.

The employee immediately notified senior staff at MotorCity Casino, who instantly contacted the Detroit Police Department. When authorities arrived moments later, they forced entry to the vehicle and retrieved the two young tots, who were taken to the casino’s security office for safe keeping until their father could be identified.

Fortunately, neither of the children sustained any injuries throughout the ordeal.

Police were able to use the casino’s security surveillance cameras to eventually track down the father. DPD reported that, by rewinding the parking lot footage to the point where the car arrived, they were able to follow his footsteps into the casino and pinpoint his current location inside MotorCity Casino.

Authorities detained the father for questioning. An investigation is underway, and it’s been confirmed that Child Protective Services are involved in the case. No names have been released by police, certainly to protect the identity of the young children involved.

Officials with the casino, located at 2901 Grand River Avenue in Detroit, Michigan, released a brief statement to the press:

“An observant MotorCity Casino employee noticed the children alone inside the car in our covered parking structure and immediately reported it. We then promptly contacted DPD and took steps to extricate the children from the car and ensure their safety.”

MotorCity Casino Making Headlines

This is the second time in recent days the Detroit casino has attracted the attention of the media. Just last week, WDIV-TV Local 4 News was called to the property by a throng of customers, irate that the gambling facility’s slot machines had stolen their money.

The casino confirmed the story, but said they were doing everything in their power to resolve the situation. The error occurred when players, who had no problem inserting money or plating the slots, were unable to cash out their winnings.

MotorCity Casino officials said the issue was due to a malfunction in the machine’s ticket-out system, preventing the slots fro printing cashout tickets. Technicians immediately went to work to fix the problem, while customers were asked to remain next to their respective slot machines until it was resolved.

After awhile, irate patrons began contacting the local media outlet to complained. According to Local 4 News, it took several hours for players to receive their cashouts, at which time they were advised to play the slot machines on the first floor only.
